Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Louis XV style is characterised by curved Rococo silhouettes, elegant cabriole legs, asymmetrical floral marquetry, and decorative brass or ormolu mounts. During the nineteenth century, cabinetmakers revived these classic proportions, combining high-grade timber veneers with intricate inlay work.

These bureaux typically feature fine satinwood or kingwood veneers laid over a solid hardwood carcase. Decorative panels showcase marquetry using contrasting timber species like boxwood, ebony, or rosewood, finished with cast brass galleries and mounts.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on internal drawers, natural age-related oxidisation on the timber underside, and original cast brass or bronze fittings. The marquetry should sit flush with surrounding veneers, showing fine grain lines rather than modern printed effects.

A compact writing bureau functions well as a focal point in an entryway, bedroom, or living room alcove. The slender cabriole legs create visual lightness, allowing the piece to contrast cleanly against minimalist architecture or neutral paint palettes.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent timber shrinkage, bleaching, or veneer lifting. Maintain the surface finish by applying high-grade beeswax twice a year and dusting gently along the grain with a soft microfibre cloth.
