FAQs

Silver plated items from the 1920s often reflect a transition between traditional Edwardian ornamentation and the emerging cleaner lines of early Art Deco, frequently featuring scalloped edges and understated handles.

These pieces are typically constructed from a base metal such as copper, brass, or nickel-silver, which is then electroplated with a layer of fine silver and finished with soldered handles and raised borders.

Authentic pieces generally bear makers marks or hallmarks stamped onto the underside or rim, alongside indicators such as EPNS (Electro Plated Nickel Silver), denoting the manufacturing standard of the period.

A silver tray can be styled on a coffee table or sideboard as a reflective base for glassware, decanters, or seasonal decorative objects to introduce metallic contrast and texture.

Preservation requires regular dusting with a soft cloth and occasional gentle cleaning with specialised silver polish, avoiding abrasive materials that can wear away the thin silver plate.
