This unusual pair of Victorian candlesticks dates from 1880 and combines brass and porcelain components. Each piece features a relief-embossed nozzle decorated with patterned motifs, set above a baluster profile column in cobalt blue porcelain adorned with gilded spider, web and flower details. The whole structure rests upon an ornate pierced brass base. The colour palette includes gold and cobalt blue throughout the polished metal and glazed ceramic surfaces. Each candlestick measures 18 cm high, 11 cm wide and 11 cm deep, offering a compact silhouette suitable for decorative placement on a mantelpiece or side table in a living room, dining room or study to provide traditional accent lighting.

Victorian brass and porcelain candlesticks combine cast metal framework with decorative glazed ceramic shafts, reflecting the eclectic 19th-century design movements including Gothic Revival and Aesthetic tastes.

These lighting fixtures were typically assembled by threading cast brass components, such as pierced bases and nozzles, onto a central iron rod that secured the porcelain column in place.

Authentic pieces generally feature hand-chased surface details, threaded rod construction accessible from the underside, cast weighting inserts, and natural surface patination consistent with age.

Position a pair symmetrically on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or dining table to add metallic warm tones and historical contrast against contemporary surfaces.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, gently clean ceramic areas with a slightly damp cloth, and avoid abrasive chemical polishes that could strip original gilding or surface lacquers.
