FAQs

Introduced during the nineteenth century, the Newcastle shape typically features intricate latticework or basketweave borders combined with rococo-style scroll cartouches and hand-painted central motifs.

These items were crafted from fine bone china or soft-paste porcelain, hand painted with coloured enamel pigments, and finished with burnished gold leaf gilding before kiln firing.

Authentic pieces often feature impressed or printed factory marks, painted pattern numbers, or date cyphers on the reverse, alongside precise gilding and high-detail freehand brushwork.

Cabinet plates can be displayed upright on plate stands within glass cabinets, arranged in a wall-mounted gallery wall grouping, or placed on a sideboard alongside neutral modern accents.

Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth and clean only when necessary using lukewarm water and mild soap, avoiding abrasive materials or dishwashers that strip gilded details.
