A stunning early antique Bakshaish carpet with a Serapi design with exquisite muted colours and large scale geometric patterns, you would expect of a carpet woven from the mid 19th Century. This exceptional carpet uses a soft pale blue medallion inside a large rust medallion with the pinkish tone corner spandrels, the colour palette is quite exceptional. Woven around 1850-60 the natural dyes have faded to reveal some amazing muted colours. The pale blues, pinks and yellows are dyes we see in Serapi carpets which are regarded as earlier carpets from the town of Heriz. This carpet is a mixture of both Bakshaish and Serapi in style and design. A rare and decorative, collectable carpet.
