Silver-mounted cologne and perfume bottles became highly popular during the Victorian and Edwardian eras, often utilised on dressing tables as part of matching vanity sets crafted by silversmiths.

These pieces typically combine blown, moulded, or cut glass bodies with sterling silver collars, mounts, and hinged or screw-on lids.

Authentic British pieces feature a series of stamped hallmarks indicating the makers mark, the standard mark for silver purity, the assay office town mark, and a date letter corresponding to the year of assay.

They can be displayed on mirrored trays, glass shelving, or bathroom counters to add reflective metallic touches and period character to contemporary spaces.

Clean the glass with a soft cloth and mild soapy water, avoiding harsh chemicals, and use a specialist non-abrasive silver polish sparingly on the metal mounts to maintain the patina without damaging the hallmarks.
