The George V era, spanning from 1910 to 1936, often featured a blend of traditional craftsmanship influenced by Edwardian elegance and early Art Deco geometric motifs. Silver items from this period typically display crisp hallmarks, refined proportions, and functional yet decorative designs tailored for social events.

These items were predominantly crafted from sterling silver, frequently accented with vitreous enamel, marcasite, or silk linings. Silversmiths utilised techniques such as guilloche engraving, repousse, and hand-soldering to construct the delicate frames and linked chains.

Authenticity is verified through clear hallmarks stamped on the metal, which include a makers mark, a standard mark indicating silver purity (such as the lion passant for sterling), a city assay office mark, and a date letter corresponding to the year of testing.

Such compact decorative objects work exceptionally well when displayed within glass cabinets, shadow boxes, or styled neatly on a dressing table tray to add metallic sheen and historical character to a contemporary space.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a soft, non-abrasive cloth specifically formulated for silver. Enamelled sections must be kept away from harsh chemical dips, ultrasonic cleaners, and excessive moisture to prevent cracking or lifting of the glasswork.
