Rare Georgian Silver Jockey Cap Caddy Spoon by Samuel Pemberton, Birmingham Circa 1795

Description

This exquisite George III silver jockey cap caddy spoon was made by the very collectable Birmingham silversmith and toy maker* Samuel Pemberton and dates circa 1795. The plain oval bowl with a central reserve stuck with maker's marks only. The inner bowl with bright-cut engraving . Jockey cap caddy spoons are very collectable and this is a lovely example by a renowned silversmith.

* from the late 18th to early 19th Century, Birmingham was the centre for the making of “toys”: small decorative objects from silver. They were produced in small family businesses and factories throughout Birmingham. They made a range of items including patch boxes, nutmeg graters, buckles, caddy spoons, vinaigrettes, snuff boxes and babies rattles.

Hallmarks:

SP for Samuel Pemberton.

Condition:

Average to good.

No repairs or splits but a little uneven at places.

Dimensions.

Length: 5cm/ 2 inches

Bowl length: 3.5cm / 1.4 inches.

Height: 1cm / 0.4 inches.
