Victorian hip flasks became popular accessories during the 19th century, often utilised by sportsmen, travellers, and gentlemen for carrying spirits discreetly while outdoors.

These items were traditionally crafted using a combination of hand-cut lead crystal or flint glass for the body, paired with sterling silver for mounts, captive caps, and removable base cups.

Authentic pieces are identified by clear British hallmarks stamped on the silver components, indicating the assay office, date letter, and makers mark, alongside hand-cut glass showing slight irregularities.

An antique flask can be displayed upright on a drinks trolley, bar cabinet, or open shelving to add a touch of historical character and metallic texture to contemporary spaces.

Sterling silver should be gently polished with a non-abrasive cloth to maintain its shine without damaging hallmarks, while the glass can be washed with warm soapy water and dried thoroughly.
