Edwardian jewellery, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, is characterised by light, airy designs, often utilising platinum, yellow gold, and intricate filigree work to create a lace-like effect that showcased precious and semi-precious gemstones.

Jewellers of this era frequently used 9ct and 15ct gold, platinum-topped gold, and silver settings, combined with popular gemstones such as diamonds, pearls, amethysts, peridots, and garnets.

Authentic pieces typically feature period-appropriate fastenings such as a C-clasp or early safety catch, hand-cut gemstones, hallmarks indicating gold carat weight, and construction techniques characteristic of early 20th-century goldsmithing.

An antique brooch can be worn pinned to the lapel of a tailored blazer, fastened at the neckline of a blouse, or used to secure a wool scarf, adding a touch of historical interest to contemporary outfits.

Clean antique jewellery gently using a soft, lint-free cloth and mild soapy water, avoiding harsh chemical dips or ultrasonic cleaners which can damage softer stones or weaken aged settings.
