Victorian Silver Christening Spoon

19th century
Description

A good example of a Victorian sterling silver Christening spoon in its original box. It is an excellent quality piece with ornate engraved decoration covering the bowl and handle. The cartouche has never been engraved with initials.

The spoon is clearly hallmarked for London, 1872 and the maker Chawner & Co. It weighs approximately 30g.

It is in excellent condition. There are some faint surface marks but no major damages and it has been lightly cleaned and polished.

The spoon comes in its original silk and velvet lined box with an original paper retailer's label below the lid for "Daniel Todd. Goldsmith, Watch Maker & Jeweller, 6&9 Argyll Arcade, Glasgow". The box is in good condition and the interior is very clean and tidy. There are a few minor marks and scuffs around the outside edges but nothing detrimental.

Approximate Measurements :

Length : 6" (15.5cm)

Bowl : 2" x 1 1/4" / 5 x 3cm

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
