Victorian silver spans the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1901, characterised by eclectic revivals of historic styles, heavy ornamentation, and elaborate repousse or chased surface decoration.

These vessels were typically crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as casting for handles, hand-hammering, and detailed repousse work to create high-relief surface scenes.

Authenticity is verified through British hallmarks stamped on the metal, which include a makers mark, standard mark indicating sterling purity, assay office mark, and a date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture.

Such pieces can be incorporated as decorative display items on bookshelves, mantelpieces, or as vessels for holding dried botanicals, adding metallic texture and historical contrast to contemporary spaces.

Antique silver should be cleaned infrequently using specialised non-abrasive silver polish and a soft cloth to preserve the natural patina and avoid damaging delicate high-relief details.
