Large 172g 6inch Rare Sterling Silver Woodcock Bird Figure 1960 Hunting Shooting

1940 - 1960
Description

A rare superbly modelled large sterling silver bird figure. It is hallmarked 925 STERLING. I would date it to c1960s almost certainly made in Germany who were also making good quality silver pheasants around this time. It has been beautifully modelled being finely cast in the form of a lightly gilded Woodcock bird. It is in super condition being free from dings splits and repairs. It measures approx. 6 inches (15.2cm) long beak to tail by 2.25 inches (5.6cm) wide by 3.5 inches (9cm) tall and weighs 172 grams (all silver weight, i.e. it is not filled). A very well designed high quality rare example which would make a great shooting prize.
