In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the 1910s.
It has a silver presentation plaque which is engraved "Portman Chapel. Presented together with a cheque for 21 guineas to Mr F.E.A.Williams, M.A. by the Incumbent, Church Workers & Children of the Sunday School & Band of Hope. In hearty appreciation of his work as Lay Reader. April 1897 - August 1900".
There are signs of age and use, some minor knocks and light marks but nothing untoward or detrimental. It has been cleaned and lightly polished and is ready for use.
