A Sterling Silver and Enamelled Plaque Matchbox Holder by Edward I. Farmer, New York

An elegant Art Deco matchbox holder by noted New York maker Edward I. Farmer. The front features a finely worked enamelled plaque set into a cleanly engraved sterling silver surround. Traces of a gilt wash remain, a detail often seen on Farmer’s silver pieces.

Condition:

Excellent. No damage, no repairs—well preserved and ready to be appreciated or used.

About Edward I. Farmer:

Edward I. Farmer was a visionary American art dealer and designer, celebrated for transforming Asian antiquities into luxurious, one-of-a-kind creations. Working from his New York studio—at one time inside the famed Carlyle Hotel—he reinvented carved stones and historic objects as elegant desk pieces and decorative art. His refined style is often compared to Cartier, and while he favoured sterling silver, he occasionally produced rare pieces in 18k gold. Farmer was, quite simply, a master tastemaker with an eye for the extraordinary. His designs are highly prized.
