The Arts and Crafts movement emerged in the late 19th century as a reaction against mass production, promoting traditional craftsmanship, hand-working techniques, and simple forms inspired by medieval designs.

Pieces were typically hand-wrought from sterling silver using techniques such as planishing, where a small-faced hammer created distinct facets on the surface, highlighting the artisans hand labour.

Authenticity is verified through official hallmarks stamped on the metal, which indicate the standard of silver, the assay office city, the date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture, and the makers mark.

Such pieces can be displayed on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or in a glass-fronted cabinet to add texture, historical depth, and metallic contrast to contemporary or traditional interior schemes.

Silver should be cleaned infrequently using a specialized, non-abrasive silver polish and a soft cloth to maintain its patina, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can damage the surface finish.
