A beautifully made rare Victorian sterling silver religious box. It is hallmarked for Birmingham 1885 with the makers mark being HP&Co for Hardman Powell and Co. It has been engraved ABLUTIO which translates to washing or cleansing so most likely contained some form of religious oil or ointment. It i s in superb condition being free from dings splits holes and repairs, just a tiny little mark -see final photo. It measures approx. 1.25 inches (3cm) across by 0.5 inch (1.2cm) tall and weighs 14 grams. A very nice quality rare little piece.
