Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of candelabra from 1900 reflects the Regency style, fashioned from electro-plated nickel silver and copper. The pieces present a silver colour with visible warm copper bleed-through on the candle sockets and stems. Each candelabra stands on a circular base with detailed foliate casting along the rim, supporting a turned and tapering baluster column. The upper section comprises a central candle nozzle above two curved reeded branches, each terminating in a foliate-cast holder. The top sections lift off the base, showing sectioned construction and wear to the plating that reveals the underlying base metal. The dimensions measure 45 cm high by 41 cm wide. These candelabra serve well as a striking centrepiece on a dining table for formal dinners or special gatherings. They also sit attractively upon a sideboard, buffet, or console table in a living room, drawing room, or hallway. The traditional design and silver-and-copper finish complement period-style interiors, traditional dining rooms, and classic reception spaces when placed upon polished wood surfaces.

FAQs

Sheffield plate refers to a manufacturing technique invented in the 18th century where sterling silver sheets were fused to a thicker copper ingot prior to rolling and shaping into decorative items.

These lighting pieces feature a fused copper core coated with sterling silver, often assembled using die-cast foliate mounts, baluster stems, and reeded re-entrant branches.

Authentic Sheffield plate exhibits natural wear where the warm copper core shows through the silver layer, a trait known as copper bleeding, along with visible hand-turned wire edges.

Position the pair symmetrically on a formal dining table, sideboard top, or chimneypiece to provide visual structure, height, and reflective ambient light.

Dust regularly with a soft cotton cloth and polish sparingly using mild silver foam, avoiding abrasive polishes that strip the remaining silver layer.
