Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the reign of George III (17601820), small silver pocket boxes were designed to hold substances such as powdered tobacco snuff or medicinal pills. Combination boxes contained separate hinged compartments, allowing the owner to carry two distinct formulations in a single vessel.

Georgian silversmiths crafted these boxes by raising and forming sterling silver sheet metal, often creating curved, body-conforming profiles for pocket carry. Hinges were hand-cut and integrated directly into the frame to create smooth, tight-fitting closures.

Authentic British silver from this period displays a set of hand-stamped hallmarks: the lion passant for sterling quality, a town mark (such as Londons leopard head), a date letter, a makers mark, and the monarchs profile duty mark used between 1784 and 1890.

Small metalwork objects are effective accent pieces when arranged on an executive office desk, presented on a tray atop a coffee table, or displayed alongside books on a bookshelf.

Silver should be cleaned using a soft cotton cloth and a non-abrasive silver polish to remove tarnish without removing historical surface detail. Liquid chemical dips should be avoided, as they can strip natural oxidisation from recess lines.
