The Edwardian and early George V period, spanning from the late 19th century to the outbreak of the First World War, was characterised by refined craftsmanship, often drawing upon neoclassical motifs, ribbon bows, and subtle repousse borders before the austerity of the war years.

These pieces typically consist of a thin sheet of sterling silver shaped over a wooden or composition core, backed with velvet, leather, or wood, and supported by a hinged easel stand.

Authenticity is verified by locating British silver hallmarks, which typically include the assay office mark (such as an anchor for Birmingham), the lion passant indicating sterling standard, and a date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture.

Such pieces provide a reflective metallic accent that contrasts effectively against matte painted walls, dark wood sideboards, or contemporary minimalist shelving units.

Silver should be cleaned infrequently using a specialised non-abrasive silver cloth to maintain the patina, taking care to avoid harsh dips or scrubbing that can damage thin metal surfaces or historical hallmarks.
