This “Stylish Norwegian Silver & Enamel Modernist Brooch” found a buyer.

Description

A striking and attractive silver and green guilloche enamel brooch, made by the distinguished Norwegian silversmith, Einar Modahl. This eye catching, modernist piece is designed in the shape of a leaf, with an articulated wirework stamen and spiral terminal. The leaf itself is delicately enamelled in a rich green colour, with visible symmetrical veining, adding to a naturalistic, textured effect. The edges of the leaf are silver, along with the reverse and the brooch is fitted with a hinged pin and roll over clasp.

This combination of silver and colourful enamel is typical of Norwegian mid-century modernist jewellery, often seen in works by designers such as Einar Modahl, David-Andersen and Marius Hammer, who were known for using guilloche enamel techniques and organic forms.

An excellent, collectable example of mid 20th Century jewellery, both wearable and a great gift idea. Dimensions below.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Enamel and silver should be cleaned gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth to avoid scratching the glass surface, and stored away from direct sunlight and harsh chemical dips.

These items can be worn pinned to lapels, heavy knit sweaters, or winter coats as a focal point, or collected and displayed on fabric boards in a home setting.

Authentic pieces generally bear makers marks, national hallmarks, and silver purity stamps such as 925S or 830S, often accompanied by the designers monogram or workshop stamp on the reverse.

Pieces are typically crafted from sterling silver, often with a gold wash known as vermeil, and feature vitreous enamel applied using techniques like plique-a-jour or guilloche to create translucent coloured patterns.

Scandinavian modernist enamel jewellery emerged in the mid-20th century, characterised by minimalist abstract or botanical forms, clean lines, and vibrant guilloche enamelling over sterling silver.
