Description

A most unusual silver bookmark with a seal to the base, London 1910 makers mark Peter Henderson Deere. I think it could also be used as a letter opener.

There is the most wonderful quote on one side by John Muir who was a renowned Scottish born American naturalist who was known as “The Father of the National Parks”.

There is a seal to one end and I think it may have had a ribbon or a chain attached.

FAQs

Combination bookmark seals gained popularity during the 19th and early 20th centuries as dual-purpose stationery accessories for readers and writers.

These items were predominantly crafted from sterling silver, base metals, brass, and sometimes incorporated mother-of-pearl or ivory handles.

Authenticity is typically determined through hallmarks, makers marks, metal testing, and the style of hand-engraving characteristic of specific historical periods.

It can be displayed inside a glass-topped coffee table display case, laid upon an open volume on a bookshelf, or styled on a traditional desk.

Preservation involves storing silver in low-humidity environments, limiting exposure to direct sunlight, and cleaning only with specialized non-abrasive silver cloths when necessary.
