Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The tradition of gifting silver at christenings originated in the Middle Ages as a symbol of prosperity and good fortune. By the Victorian and 20th-century eras, cased silver cups and mugs became standard commemorative gifts for godparents and family members to present to newborns.

Traditional silver mugs are standardly forged from sterling silver, containing 92.5 percent pure silver alloyed with copper for durability. They often feature raised bases, scrolled handles, and decorative surface embellishments such as engine-turned engraving.

Authentic British sterling silver pieces bear official assay hallmarks stamped into the metal, including a lion passant for silver purity, an assay office symbol, a date letter, and a makers mark. Unmarked pieces may be silver-plated rather than solid sterling silver.

In contemporary settings, cased silver items can be styled open on a bookshelf, vitrine, or sideboard top alongside other vintage metalwork. They also function effectively as decorative desk accessories or small vessel displays.

Polish the silver periodically using a soft microfibre cloth and a dedicated silver polish to remove oxidisation and tarnish. Store the mug inside its velvet-lined case away from direct moisture and extreme humidity to protect both the metalwork and the interior fabric.
