A caddy spoon is a small specialized spoon historically used for measuring loose tea leaves from a caddy into a teapot, becoming particularly popular in Britain during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Traditional caddy spoons were predominantly hand-crafted from sterling silver, though examples in bone, ivory, horn, and Sheffield plate also exist, often featuring hand-stamped or cast figural terminals.

Authentic pieces typically feature British hallmarks stamped into the metal, which include the makers mark, the standard mark for sterling silver, the town assay office mark, and a date letter corresponding to the year of assay.

Antique silver spoons can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, mounted in shadow boxes as wall art, or styled on a sideboard within traditional silver storage chests.

Sterling silver should be cleaned infrequently using a non-abrasive silver cloth or specialized liquid polish, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can strip the natural patina and damage delicate recessed details.
