The chalice is a standing cup used to hold sacramental wine during religious liturgies and communion services, with designs evolving through various historical periods from plain medieval vessels to highly ornate revival pieces.

Traditional chalices are primarily fabricated from sterling silver, often featuring gilt interiors, and are crafted using techniques such as hand-raising, casting, repousse, and chasing.

Authenticity is typically verified by examining official hallmarks stamped into the metal, which indicate the metal purity, assay office, and year of manufacture, alongside evaluating the weight, construction methods, and patination.

An antique chalice can be displayed as a statement decorative object on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or sideboard, adding a touch of historical gravitas and metallic sheen to contemporary spaces.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a specialized, non-abrasive silver polish and a soft cloth to remove harmful tarnish while preserving the desirable underlying patina and historical wear.
