Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain refers to Japanese export ceramics produced in the Arita area of Hizen province and exported via the port of Imari. It is characterised by rich underglaze cobalt blue combined with overglaze iron-red and gold enamels depicting intricate floral or geometric patterns.

Imari ceramics are crafted from kaolin porcelain clay fired at high temperatures. The surface decoration traditionally combines dark blue underglaze paint with overglaze enamels in terracotta red, orange, and metallic gilding details.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit small spur marks on the base from kiln firing, minor irregularities in the hand-painted enamelling, and fluted or scalloped rims. The undersides often feature simplified underglaze blue foliage, scrollwork, or maker marks.

Imari plates can be displayed on wall surfaces using discreet plate hangers, arranged on plate stands upon a sideboard top, or placed inside open bookcases. The contrasting terracotta and blue palette pairs effectively with dark wood furniture and neutral backdrops.

Clean porcelain by dusting gently with a soft dry brush or wiping with a slightly damp cloth using tepid water. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, abrasive sponges, or immersion in hot water, as overglaze enamels and gilding can suffer damage.
