C1900-1930 a Nickel Plated Candle Lamp

1900 - 1920
Description

Circa 1900-1930 a nickel plated candle lamp in good working order. Nickel was applied over brass to give a shiny, more 'modern' finish in the early 20th C.

The lamp measures 29.5cm in height, the diameter of the shade is 17.5 and the original weighted base is 11.5 in diameter.

The shade has a tiny ‘ding’ at the top as seen in Photo one. The spring mechanism works well and it is in good condition.

The lamp has been lightly cleaned to maintain the original nickel plating.

Postage and packing is included for the UK mainland only and for outside areas or delivery abroad please contact us for a quote. Thank you.

Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A nickel-plated candle lamp from the early 20th century is a portable lighting device designed with a reflective metal hood to direct candlelight for reading or close work, often featuring internal spring mechanisms to feed the candle upward.

These lamps were typically constructed from solid brass or sheet metal base material electroplated with a thin layer of nickel, giving them a bright, corrosion-resistant silver finish, and often assembled with screw fittings and mechanical internal springs.

Look for authentic signs of wear such as soft brassing where the nickel plating has thinned over time, period construction features like solder joints or threaded components, and weighted stepped bases.

Place the lamp on a mantelpiece, dark wood desk, or bedside table as an architectural accent piece, where its metallic finish provides contrast against matte textures or painted backdrops.

Wipe gently with a soft microfibre cloth to remove dust and fingerprints, avoiding abrasive polishes or harsh chemical cleaners that can strip the delicate nickel electroplating down to the base metal.
