Victorian opaline glass scent bottles are characterised by their opaque, pastel-coloured glass body, often paired with hallmarked sterling silver screw caps or hinged lids, reflecting the high craftsmanship of late 19th-century vanity accessories.

These items typically combine hand-blown opaline or art glass bodies with cast, chased, or embossed sterling silver mounts and caps, sometimes featuring internal glass stoppers.

Authenticity is determined by examining the clear hallmarks on the silver mount for the makers mark, assay office, and date letter, alongside observing the hand-finished pontil marks and characteristic weight of period opaline glass.

Such pieces can be displayed prominently on a dressing table tray, a bathroom counter, or within a glass-fronted cabinet to highlight their colour and intricate metalwork.

Preserve the items by dusting the glass gently with a soft cloth and using specialised non-abrasive silver polish strictly on the metal components, avoiding harsh chemicals on the glass surface.
