A very rare early English antique solid sterling silver tinder box. It is hallmarked for Birmingham 1846 with the maker being Cronin & Wheeler. It has been engraved with the initials EP along with a leopard crest used by the Pott or Potts families. It would have held the material used for lighting a fire and has a metal striker inside for striking a flint against. It is in super condition being free from dings splits holes and repairs. It measures over 2 inches (5.2cm) long by over 1 inch (2.6cm) wide and weighs 24 grams. A well made rare piece.
