Sampson Mordan was a renowned 19th- and early 20th-century London silversmithing firm, famous for patenting the first mechanically propelling pencil and producing high-quality novelty silver items, desk accessories, and gaming paraphernalia.

Edwardian gaming and billiard accessories were typically crafted from solid sterling silver, often featuring hallmarks indicating the assay office, date letter, and makers mark, sometimes combined with wood, leather, or bone.

Authentic pieces bear clear British hallmarks stamped into the metal, usually comprising a makers mark, a lion passant for sterling silver, a leopards head or other assay office symbol, and a date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture.

Such items work well as curated tabletop objects displayed on a bookshelf, desk, or side table, adding a touch of historical craftsmanship and metallic sheen to contemporary spaces.

Preserve sterling silver by storing it in a low-humidity environment, handling it with clean hands or cotton gloves to avoid oils, and cleaning it sparingly with a non-abrasive silver cloth to maintain its natural patina without removing historical wear.
