Early 20th-century frames often feature clean lines and understated borders, reflecting a transition away from heavy Victorian ornamentation towards simpler, more functional designs.

These pieces typically consist of a front sheet of sterling silver mounted over a wooden interior structure, frequently backed with oak or mahogany and supported by a hinged wooden strut.

Authenticity is verified by checking for British hallmarks stamped into the silver border, which indicate the assay office, standard of silver, and year of manufacture.

Display the frame on a mantelpiece, desk, or bedside table to add a touch of metallic contrast and classic texture to modern minimalist or transitional spaces.

Clean the silver periodically with a specialised soft polishing cloth, avoiding harsh abrasive dips that can damage the underlying wooden components or weaken soldered joints.
