FAQs

French Empire style lighting draws heavy inspiration from classical antiquity, featuring symmetrical designs, motifs such as fluted columns and paw feet, and an emphasis on architectural grandeur.

These lamps typically utilise cast brass, bronze, or gilt metal for the structural body, often paired with pleated fabric or silk shades to diffuse light softly.

Authentic pieces generally display natural patina, weight from solid metal construction, cast detailing without modern seam lines, and period-appropriate wiring or fittings.

A classic brass lamp adds a layer of refinement when placed on a dark wood desk or sideboard, serving as a metallic focal point that bridges traditional and modern aesthetics.

Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth and avoid harsh chemical polishes that can strip the historic patina or protective lacquer applied to the metal.
