Imari porcelain is a type of Japanese export porcelain produced in the town of Arita, in the Hizen province of northwestern Kyushu, and shipped from the port of Imari to European markets starting in the late 17th century.

Imari pieces are traditionally crafted from fine kaolin clay, fired at high temperatures, and hand-painted underglaze in cobalt blue, with overglaze enamels added in iron red, gold, and sometimes green, black, or yellow.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit characteristic weight, hand-potted irregularities, spur marks on the base from firing, and a distinct palette combining cobalt blue underglaze with iron red and gilt overglaze highlights.

These decorative plates can be displayed using plate stands on sideboards, mounted on walls as part of a curated gallery arrangement, or integrated into tablescapes to introduce rich colour and historical texture.

Antique porcelain should be washed by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding abrasive materials, dishwashers, and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to preserve the delicate overglaze enamels and gilding.
