Art Deco frames emerged in the 1920s and 1930s, characterised by sleek geometric lines, modern materials, and sophisticated craftsmanship that broke away from traditional floral ornamentation.

These pieces typically combined sterling silver mounts with wooden backs, often incorporating luxury accents such as tortoiseshell, enamel, or shagreen around the aperture.

Authentic pieces feature clear British hallmarks indicating the assay office, metal purity, and date letter, alongside traditional construction methods like wooden struts and fabric-lined backs.

Place the frame on a clean-lined wooden surface or mantelpiece to let the metallic sheen and dark contrast create a focal point among contemporary decor.

Use a soft, non-abrasive microfibre cloth designed for silver to gently remove tarnish, avoiding any cleaning agents coming into direct contact with the delicate tortoiseshell or fabric backing.
