French Art Nouveau (ca. 1920) Bronze Table Lamp by Charles Schneider. One of the company’s earlier lamps fitted with an original glass shade, the lamp can be set at various angles. Height 34cm, base 13cm diameter, weight 2.5kg.
Good original condition and patina. It is fitted with new wiring, bulb and plug and will be supplied with a UK/European or USA plug and bulb, as required.
In the late 19th century both Charles Schneider and his brother Ernest worked for Daum and in 1913 they decided to start their own business and bought a small glass factory in association with a friend, Henri Wolf, at Epinay-sur-Seine. Schneider Freres et Wolff went on to become one of the most celebrated manufacturers of art glass. Charles Schneider was a brilliant and versatile designer, and the company produced a wide range of superb designs of vases, ewers, bowls and lamps. They were particularly successful in marketing their glass to major high prestige retail stores, both in Paris and overseas.
