"Heritage Quality Without the High Street Mark-up"

Hodgson Antiques (www.hodgsonantiques.co.uk) has been in the antique trade and dealing independently since 2012. Based in Derbyshire countryside operating solely online, we specialise in antique and vintage lighting, table lamps, ceiling lights, chandeliers, wall lights and lanterns together with some selectively sourced decorative items. We source items from around the UK, Europe and the rest of the world.

We believe that acquiring exceptional, fully restored period lighting shouldn't require paying premium high-street showroom prices. By operating entirely online and focusing our resources into our own dedicated restoration workshop, we have completely reimagined the traditional antique gallery model. We have a significant structural pricing advantage over traditional brick-and-mortar storefronts, which enables us to offer the exact high quality and meticulous restoration you find in the high street showrooms – delivered directly from our workshop at transparent competitive trade prices passing substantial savings onto our customers.

All our antique lights are fully overhauled, professionally cleaned, rewired and PAT tested to UK standards ready for installation. They are supplied with period-style matching aged fixing brass screws, fittings.

Our lighting is safely wrapped in heavy-duty protective packaging and dispatched the next day via premium tracked courier within mainland UK (delivery charge applies at checkout). As an independent workshop, we highly appreciate direct bank transfers (BACS). If you prefer to pay directly via bank transfer, we will happily waive the delivery fee as a thank you. Please contact us directly via the email link or phone number below before clicking 'Buy Now' to receive your free shipping invoice

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Empire style emerged in late 18th and early 19th-century France, drawing heavy inspiration from the classical motifs of ancient Rome, Greece, and Egypt. Lighting fixtures from this period typically feature symmetrical designs, classical ornamentation, and a combination of polished or patinated bronze and brass.

Traditional chandeliers from this era were predominantly constructed using cast or chased brass and bronze, often incorporating components like hand-linked chains and patinated metal accents. Candlestick-style drip pans and structural joints were traditionally assembled by hand using mechanical fasteners rather than modern welding.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period-correct manufacturing techniques such as hand-cut threads, heavy cast metal components, natural patination, and older wiring methods if un-rewired. Examining the construction of the joints, the weight of the metal, and the style of the casting marks helps determine its age.

Integrating an antique chandelier into a modern setting creates a striking focal point through the juxtaposition of eras. Hang it above a contemporary dining table or within a minimalist hallway to add warmth, texture, and historical contrast to clean architectural lines.

Preserve antique brass and bronze by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemical polishes or abrasive cleaners, as these can strip the historical patina and damage the surface finish.
