Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

FAQs

Brandy warmers gained popularity during the Victorian era as dining habits evolved to include after-dinner liqueurs and spirits served at precise temperatures. They reflect the sophisticated craftsmanship and elaborate dining rituals typical of the late 19th century.

These pieces were typically constructed from sterling silver or silver plate, often featuring turned wooden handles such as ebony or ebonised wood to prevent heat transfer. They usually comprise a stand, a small spirit burner, and a pouring pan.

Authentic pieces bear clear hallmarking indicating the assay office, date letter, and makers mark, alongside the standard sterling silver hallmarks. Construction details, such as hand-riveted joints and turned wooden insulators, also point to period manufacturing techniques.

This piece works effectively as a display object on a bar cart, sideboard, or within a glass-fronted cabinet, adding a reflective metallic accent to traditional or eclectic rooms.

Silver should be cleaned periodically using a specialised non-abrasive silver polish to remove tarnish, and stored in a low-humidity environment away from direct sunlight to maintain its finish.
