Antique Silver Castle Top Vinaigrette

19th century
Description

This gorgeous antique sterling silver vinaigrette dates from the early years of Queen Victoria's reign.

It is hallmarked for Birmingham1843 with the maker's mark of Edward Smith and shows a very crisp picture of St Paul's Cathedral. The silver is in excellent condition, both hinges are good. There is a slight loss to the gilding on the top of the grille, probably a result of over-zealous cleaning, but otherwise the gilding is also good. There is an inscription in the cartouche on the back which (interestingly!) reads 'EGYPT'.

The view of St Paul's is identical to a drawing entitled 'North-east view of St Paul's Cathedral, City of London, 1835' by the artist Benjamin Winkles.

Dimensions:

Length: 3.7cm

Width: 2.7cm

Height: 1cm

Silver Weight: 20g

Complimentary gift wrapping is available on request.

Post and packaging are free within the UK. Overseas buyers please e-mail for postage costs and please note: Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to buying.
