Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

19th-century cabinetry often incorporated revivalist styles, including Rococo and Louis XV influences. Common elements feature ornate wood carving, rich flame mahogany or walnut veneers, oval door moulding, and gently curved silhouettes such as serpentine tops or cabriole feet.

High-grade mahogany, rosewood, and walnut were popular primary woods, frequently applied as flame or burr veneers over solid timber carcasses. Cast brass key plates, steel locks, and hand-cut dovetail joinery were standard construction techniques of the period.

Authentic period cabinets typically exhibit secondary woods like pine or oak inside drawers and back panels, hand-cut joinery, original lock mechanisms, and uneven natural shrinkage in the wood grain over time rather than uniform modern machine cuts.

A pair of matching side cabinets offers ideal symmetry when positioned on either side of a fireplace, doorway, or large architectural feature. They work well as statement console storage, grounded beneath contemporary artwork or decorative wall mirrors.

Keep wooden cabinets away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage or veneer lifting. Clean surfaces using a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the wood and preserve the original patina.
