Description

Striking French Art Deco (ca. 1930) pierrot (clown) table lamp by Marcel André Bouraine (1886-1948) for Max le Verrier. It is made of chrome-plated bronze on a Belgian black marble base with a white crackle glass shade (10cm diameter). Signed ‘Bouraine’ on the base. It has been rewired and is fitted with a UK adaptor (will be replaced by a UK fused plug if sold to a UK buyer). At the moment has 110v bulb only (not UK bulb). 42cm wide x 14cm deep (base) x 26.5cm high, weight ca 8kg.

Superb condition with little wear.

Bouraine was one of the most important French sculptors of the Art Deco era, whose work is highly sought after by collectors, specifically small statuettes, lamps, bookends, and radiator figures. He studied under Joseph-Alexandre Falguière and also worked with Argy Rouseau, and was also a member of the Evolution Group. He exhibited widely including at the Salon des Artistes Français, the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Tuileries.
