A very rare Indian solid silver tea cup and saucer. It is unmarked but tests as high grade silver. I would date it to c1920-1940. The cup measures approx. 3 inches (7.6cm) across excluding the handle by almost 2 inches (4.9cm) to the rim tall and the saucer 5.5 inches (14cm) across and combined weighs 166 grams. A beautifully made piece.

Indian colonial silver production flourished during the British Raj in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, where local silversmiths combined traditional indigenous techniques with Western utilitarian forms.

These pieces were typically handcrafted from high-purity solid silver, utilising traditional hand-chasing, repousse, and engraving techniques to create intricate surface patterns.

Authentic pieces often feature dense, regional-specific chased motifs such as jungle scenes, village life, or foliage, and may occasionally bear artisan makers marks or purity stamps.

Antique silver can be displayed on open shelving, sideboards, or inside glass-fronted cabinets to add metallic texture, historical depth, and reflective contrast to modern spaces.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a specialist non-abrasive silver polish and a soft cloth to preserve the original patina and fine chased details.
