Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

French crystal chandeliers gained prominence during the 17th and 18th centuries in royal palaces and chateaux, evolving from simple wooden frames to elaborate gilded bronze structures adorned with cut glass and crystal prisms designed to maximise candle and gas light.

These fixtures typically utilise cast bronze or brass frames, often with a gilt finish, combined with hand-cut lead crystal drops, prisms, and beaded garlands held together by wire linkages.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the casting quality of the metal, the presence of hand-cut crystal with visible imperfections or tool marks, traditional pin-and-wire construction methods, and period-appropriate wiring or mounting hardware.

An antique chandelier serves as a focal point when contrasted against minimalist architectural details or paired with neutral colour palettes, adding a layer of historical texture and reflective illumination to contemporary spaces.

Maintenance involves dusting the crystals regularly with a soft brush and cleaning them periodically using a mild solution of warm water and isopropyl alcohol applied with a lint-free cloth, taking care not to submerge electrical components or damage the metal patination.
