A beautiful English solid sterling silver table cigarette or cigar box (the central division can be adjusted or removed to accommodate either). It is hallmarked for Birmingham 1957 with the maker being Henry Clifford Davis. It has been beautifully designed with the lid being engine turned and the cartouche has been engraved with the initials AH. The front side of the box has been engraved ''To ALBERT HEWITT from the Staff of J.H.PECK & Co. LTD. WIGAN as a token of esteem and affection on his retirement April 1907 - September 1960''. (Albert must have seen some changes starting in the Edwardian era and finishing in the 60''s). It is in superb condition being free from dings splits holes and repairs - looks unused. It measures approx. 7 inches (17.8cm) across by 2.75 inches (9.5cm) wide by over 2 inches (5.4cm) tall and weighs 508 grams (including the wooden liner and there most likely will be a base plate). A very high quality super clean interesting piece.
