Original 1848 Military General Service Medal

Description

Original 1848 Military General Service Medal on original Silk Ribbon.

The medal has a bust of Queen Victoria and 1848 on the front with Queen Victoria and a kneeling Duke of Wellington with the inscription To the British Army 1793-1814 on the back.

This particular Service Medal was awarded retrospectively to Private Edward Howells (1778-1862) of the 6th Regiment of Foot for his service in Orthes, the Pyrenees, Vittoria and Coruna.

The name of Edward Howell is engraved on the side of the medal (pictured) and the names of his campaigns are added on the clasps (also pictured).
