Early 18th Century Antique Silver “boscobel Oak” Snuff Box, English C.1720

An exceptionally rare unmarked silver snuff box. It has an engraved image of King Charles II hiding in the ''Boscobel Oak'' tree to evade the Roundhead soldiers after the Battle of Worcester in 1651. It has a motto beneath ''Sacra Jovi Quercus'' translated as the Sacred Oak of Jove. The box has a stand away hinge and a gilded interior. It is in excellent condition with only very slight wear to the engraving.
This box featured in the book ''British Silver Boxes 1640-1840, the Lion Collection'' on page 109, item number 100. It is highly collectable and would grace any collection.
