Antique Afghan Firozkohi Char Aimaq Kilim, Woven in 2 Parts, Circa 1920.

1900 - 1920
Description

Size: 10ft 6in x 6ft 4in (320 x 192cm).

Antique Afghan Firozkohi kilim woven in two strips.

Circa 1920.

This kilim is typical of those produced by the Firozkohi (mountain of Turquoise) nomads of north-western Afghanistan. The kilim is woven in 2 parts on narrow looms, and then stitched together; these kilims were used as floor coverings inside the tribal Yurt. The traditional design of a diamond lattice is embroidered onto a plain weave ground, the colour palette is very natural with earth tones.

Excellent condition, very slight wear. (it should be noted that the kilim is uneven, with one side longer than the other, and it does not lie flat on the floor, this will be corrected prior to delivery, included in the cost).

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Firozkohi Char Aimaq kilim is a traditional flatwoven textile crafted by nomadic tribes in central and western Afghanistan, known for geometric diamond patterns and narrow two-piece construction.

These kilims are hand-woven using hand-spun sheep wool on portable looms, featuring slit-weave flatweave techniques and dyed with natural plant and mineral pigments.

Authentic early pieces often feature two narrow panels hand-sewn together down the centre, subtle colour variations from hand-dyed wool strands, and geometric motifs unique to specific tribal groups.

An antique kilim adds texture when layered over natural fibre carpets, placed beneath neutral furniture, or mounted as a wall hanging in rustic or contemporary settings.

Vacuum gently without a rotating beater bar, blot spills immediately with cool water, use a protective rug pad underneath to prevent friction, and consult a professional cleaner for deep care.
