FAQs

Corinthian column candlesticks draw inspiration from classical Greek and Roman architecture, becoming particularly popular during the neoclassical revival periods of the 18th and 19th centuries. They reflect a broader cultural fascination with classical antiquity and formal symmetry in interior design.

These items are typically constructed with a base metal such as brass, copper, or Britannia metal, which is then electroplated with a layer of silver. Many period examples feature weighted bases filled with resin, pitch, or plaster to provide stability and prevent tipping.

Authentic pieces often exhibit wear patterns where the silver plate has worn thin over raised areas, revealing the base metal underneath. Makers marks, registry numbers, or specific plating stamps on the underside or rim can also help verify the period of manufacture.

These pieces can be used to anchor a tablescape on a dining table or sideboard, introducing vertical height and metallic sheen. They mix effectively with both minimalist modern aesthetics and traditional decors by adding a touch of classical structure and polished reflection.

Silver plate should be cleaned gently using a non-abrasive silver polish and a soft microfibre cloth to avoid removing the thin layer of plating. Avoid harsh chemical dips, and store them in a dry environment to minimise tarnishing.
