The Georgian period, spanning the reigns of the four King Georges from 1714 to 1830, encompasses several design shifts from early classical simplicity to elaborate rococo ornamentation, heavily utilising sterling silver crafted by skilled silversmiths.

Georgian hollowware and flatware were traditionally crafted from sterling silver, adhering to the strict standard of 925 parts per thousand, often shaped through hand-raising, casting, chasing, and repousse techniques.

Authenticity is verified through clear hallmarks stamped directly onto the metal, which typically include a makers mark, a standard mark such as the lion passant for sterling, a town mark indicating the assay office, and a date letter corresponding to the specific year of testing.

An antique silver dish can be displayed as a centrepiece on a dining table, integrated into a tablescape, or placed on a sideboard to introduce historical texture and reflective metallic contrast to contemporary schemes.

Antique sterling silver requires gentle cleaning with non-abrasive cloths and specialised silver polishes formulated to remove tarnish without harming the underlying metal or wearing down chased details, followed by storage in tarnish-resistant fabrics.
