Fairy lights were popular miniature lamps used in the late 19th century for table lighting and illuminating nurseries or hallways safely using specialized night light candles.

These lamps typically feature moulded or pressed coloured glass shades paired with a matching glass or ceramic base, often incorporating metal fittings to hold the candle securely.

Authentic pieces frequently bear moulded maker marks such as Clarkes patent stamps on the base or shade, accompanied by consistent glass ageing characteristics like surface wear and bubbles.

Placed on a mantelpiece or a bookshelf, these small items provide colourful accent lighting and refract candlelight effectively to create a warm atmosphere.

Wash gently using lukewarm water and mild soap, avoiding harsh chemicals, abrasive sponges, or immersion in hot water to protect the historic glass surface.
