Developed in the 19th century by Samuel Clarke, these patented lamps were designed to burn night lights safely, using a specialised pyramid-shaped wax light housed beneath a coloured glass dome.

These pieces are typically constructed from pressed or moulded glass featuring textured exterior patterns like diamond point or hobnail, paired with a matching clear glass base.

Authentic pieces usually feature embossed maker marks such as Clarkes signature trade mark, the pyramid symbol, or patent details moulded into the glass base or metal components.

Placed on a mantelpiece or side table, these coloured glass items create ambient lighting and add rich colour accents when illuminated by candlelight.

Clean antique glass gently using lukewarm water and mild soap, avoiding harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that could damage the historic surface or markings.
